their next generation 2:14 of apple carplay now this next 2:17 generation of apple carplay apple says 2:19 it communicates with your vehicle's 2:20 real-time systems in an on-device 2:22 privacy friendly weight showing all your 2:24 driving information so there are several 2:26 questions here what features does it 2:27 have that's different than current car 2:29 plan for apple where is this car play 2:32 headed and can and will apple compete 2:34 with tesla so let's take a look at what 2:36 apple is showing us for their next 2:38 generation carplay here so here is the 2:40 display you'll see it has just a huge 2:43 display or a possibility of a huge 2:45 display it has the current apps kind of 2:47 like current carplay but there are a lot 2:49 of differences here so here's an example 2:51 of the display they show in the video if 2:53 we dive deeper into it here is the 2:55 odometer which is you know pretty normal 2:57 it shows the total odometer miles and 3:00 also the trip mileage so it's actually 3:02 tapping into the computer's 3:04 systems to get this information next is 3:07 showing how much fuel you have and how 3:09 much mileage right you have left which 3:11 is also interesting they tap into the 3:14 engine temperature as well further shows 3:16 how much engine oil you have and then it 3:19 shows you what gear you are and your 3:21 rpms if you go into their center console 3:23 here you have a music plane or any media 3:26 you have navigation on this side and 3:28 then you've got a bunch of controls here 3:29 which is kind of very eerily similar to 3:32 tesla's right um controls with 3:35 temperature et cetera if we go even 3:37 further we have more controls for 3:39 climate control you can control your 3:41 seats in the car you can actually do 3:43 recirculation you could do heated 3:45 steering wheel on or off if your car 3:47 features that you can turn on your seat 3:48 heaters or your seat coolers you can do 3:51 max ac sync your ac as well so there's a 3:54 ton of features that apple carplay will 3:56 tap into in this next generation here's 3:58 a screen where carplay is tapping into 4:00 torque and power or horsepower and then 4:03 you've got kind of a widget screen here 4:04 so you've got your current trip you've 4:06 got a calendar right that sinks into you 4:08 from your iphone you've got 4:11 air quality uv index um you've got your 4:14 garage door seen if it's closed or not 4:17 time etc here's another screen right um 4:20 it's showing that incoming phone call 4:21 here's the odometer screen and it has 4:23 various uh variations of this odometer 4:26 screen kind of like an apple watch where 4:27 you can customize it as well and finally 4:29 this is a full sample layout right of a 4:32 bunch of widgets here media the center 4:34 console and odometer screen all right so 4:36 what's going on here apple is moving 4:38 carplay from just infotainment and it's 4:40 moving it into a lot of different areas 4:42 like driving information climate control 4:44 controlling your seats etc the question 4:46 is will carplay become an operating 4:48 system to control all of the cars 4:50 displays at the same time and also will 4:52 the oems keep their own display uis as 4:54 well so it's kind of a conflict of 4:56 interest of sorts what's interesting is 4:58 this sets up a lot of future expansion 5:00 possibilities for apple apple might be 5:02 able to expand their car operating 5:04 system into a full-blown car os further 5:07 they could possibly add driver assist 5:09 features and eventually fsd features 5:11 into car os right and provide them to 5:14 auto amps and that might set up an 5:15 interesting situation where auto oems 5:17 might need to choose between apple car 5:19 os and tesla fsd licensing apple does 5:22 have some interesting advantages here so 5:24 they have a seamless integration with 5:26 current iphone native apps like calendar 5:28 navigation address book messages widgets 5:30 and more apple has a huge developer 5:33 ecosystem and that developer ecosystem 5:35 can extend the functionality of current 5:37 apps to the car for example games etc 5:40 also carplay allows existing oems to 5:42 modernize their ui and ux in the car at 5:45 a minimal cost and further the car 5:47 becomes an extension of ios and apple's 5:50 media ecosystem there are some 5:52 disadvantages as well that apple has to 5:54 face first they need to work with 5:56 existing oems who are typically slow to 5:58 adopt new technologies for example it 6:00 has taken many years right for the 6:02 existing carplay to roll out to a lot of 6:04 automakers further there's a potential 6:06 conflict of interest if carplay becomes 6:08 an operating system to replace all of 6:10 the ui and ux in the car apple is going 6:13 to gain a big leverage and the question 6:14 is will oems allow that further apple 6:16 doesn't have a large fleet to collect 6:18 the required data to offer a compelling 6:20 full self-driving experience or feature 6:23 and they're very late to the game 6:24 already now let's contrast that to tesla 6:26 tesla has a large fleet already running 6:28 their hardware three they got current 6:31 neural nets that are running in these 6:32 cars in shadow mode as well collecting 6:35 relevant and very valuable data so one 6:37 of the clear advantages is the latest 6:39 neural nets are running in all of these 6:41 cars and they're used to collect data 6:43 which is used to correct the mistakes 6:45 right of the latest neural nets to make 6:47 them better tesla is not hampered by 6:49 slow adoption of partners so they can 6:51 move as fast and they as they want and 6:53 that's a huge advantage next tesla is 6:55 pushing the envelope of vertical 6:56 integration with factories machinery 6:58 service centers supercharges battery 7:00 manufacturing fsd and more it's a very 7:02 complicated ecosystem that tesla is 7:04 bringing together and this allows tesla 7:06 to give the highest value at the most 7:08 competitive price all right further 7:11 tesla is in the lead with data right and 7:13 tesla is also in the lead with a number 7:14 of vehicles running fsd beta about a 7:17 hundred thousand and growing further 7:19 tesla's in the lead in terms of vertical 7:21 integration with ai and their ai stack 7:23 so they got the in-car hardware they're 7:25 collecting the data they're labeling the 7:27 data training the data they have huge 7:29 training compute they deploy their 7:30 software it's a huge operation that's 7:32 integrated under tesla's roof and then 7:35 you've got the tesla flight wheel the 7:36 more cars they sell right the more and 7:38 better data they get which makes their 7:40 full self driving even better which 7:42 increases value and allows tesla to sell 7:45 more cars and then there's a bigger 7:46 backdrop of what i call car 1.0 versus 7:49 car 2.0 so carb 1.0 is about humans 7:52 driving right their car and full 7:54 attention is required right to drive car 7:56 2.0 now is about ai or neural nets 7:59 driving the car and the human in the car 8:01 they're free to relax play or work and 8:04 the question is can existing oems 8:06 successfully navigate this transition 8:08 from car 1.0 to 2.0 or do they have to 8:11 partner with apple mobilei nvidia cruz 8:14 etc even with the with partnerships can 8:17 they succeed further is autonomous 8:18 driving a network effects market where 8:21 winner takes most meaning will the 8:23 leader collect the most and the best 8:24 data and this flywheel just becomes 8:27 incredibly difficult or impossible to 8:28 catch up with as a tesla investor i'm 8:30 actually glad that apple is coming out 8:32 with this stuff now versus let's say 8:34 seven or eight years ago tesla has 8:37 already pushed forward they've already 8:38 established themselves right as a 8:40 struggle not not just with evs but with 8:42 fsd and the future autonomous driving 8:44 market so the challenge actually lies 8:46 more with apple can they extend right 8:48 their next generation car play into 8:50 something more can they add autonomous 8:52 driving features to us can they really 8:54 compete with this car 2.0 market and 8:56 paradigm and then there's a question of 8:58 google will they come in right with 8:59 android and offer the same type of 9:01 offerings that apple offers and can 9:03 apple google nvidia mobile and others 9:07 right really outfit 9:08 oems enough to compete with tesla in the 9:11 new 2.0 car market i hope this has been 9:13 helpful if it has good like and the center 4:34 console and odometer screen all right so 4:36 what's going on here apple is moving 4:38 carplay from just infotainment and it's 4:40 moving it into a lot of different areas 4:42 like driving information climate control 4:44 controlling your seats etc the question 4:46 is will carplay become an operating 4:48 system to control all of the cars 4:50 displays at the same time and also will 4:52 the oems keep their own display uis as 4:54 well so it's kind of a conflict of 4:56 interest of sorts what's interesting is 4:58 this sets up a lot of future expansion 5:00 possibilities for apple apple might be 5:02 able to expand their car operating 5:04 system into a full-blown car os further 5:07 they could possibly add driver assist 5:09 features and eventually fsd features 5:11 into car os right and provide them to 5:14 auto amps and that might set up an 5:15 interesting situation where auto oems 5:17 might need to choose between apple car 5:19 os and tesla fsd licensing apple does 5:22 have some interesting advantages here so 5:24 they have a seamless integration with 5:26 current iphone native apps like calendar 5:28 navigation address book messages widgets 5:30 and more apple has a huge developer 5:33 ecosystem and that developer ecosystem 5:35 can extend the functionality of current 5:37 apps to the car for example games etc 5:40 also carplay allows existing oems to 5:42 modernize their ui and ux in the car at 5:45 a minimal cost and further the car 5:47 becomes an extension of ios and apple's 5:50 media ecosystem there are some 5:52 disadvantages as well that apple has to 5:54 face first they need to work with 5:56 existing oems who are typically slow to 5:58 adopt new technologies for example it 6:00 has taken many years right for the 6:02 existing carplay to roll out to a lot of 6:04 automakers further there's a potential 6:06 conflict of interest if carplay becomes 6:08 an operating system to replace all of 6:10 the ui and ux in the car apple is going 6:13 to gain a big leverage and the question 6:14 is will oems allow that further apple 6:16 doesn't have a large fleet to collect 6:18 the required data to offer a compelling 6:20 full self-driving experience or feature 6:23 and they're very late to the game 6:24 already now let's contrast that to tesla 6:26 tesla has a large fleet already running 6:28 their hardware three they got current 6:31 neural nets that are running in these 6:32 cars in shadow mode as well collecting 6:35 relevant and very valuable data so one 6:37 of the clear advantages is the latest 6:39 neural nets are running in all of these 6:41 cars and they're used to collect data 6:43 which is used to correct the mistakes 6:45 right of the latest neural nets to make 6:47 them better tesla is not hampered by 6:49 slow adoption of partners so they can 6:51 move as fast and they as they want and 6:53 that's a huge advantage next tesla is 6:55 pushing the envelope of vertical 6:56 integration with factories machinery 6:58 service centers supercharges battery 7:00 manufacturing fsd and more it's a very 7:02 complicated ecosystem that tesla is 7:04 bringing together and this allows tesla 7:06 to give the highest value at the most 7:08 competitive price all right further 7:11 tesla is in the lead with data right and 7:13 tesla is also in the lead with a number 7:14 of vehicles running fsd beta about a 7:17 hundred thousand and growing further 7:19 tesla's in the lead in terms of vertical 7:21 integration with ai and their ai stack 7:23 so they got the in-car hardware they're 7:25 collecting the data they're labeling the 7:27 data training the data they have huge 7:29 training compute they deploy their 7:30 software it's a huge operation that's 7:32 integrated under tesla's roof and then 7:35 you've got the tesla flight wheel the 7:36 more cars they sell right the more and 7:38 better data they get which makes their 7:40 full self driving even better which 7:42 increases value and allows tesla to sell 7:45 more cars and then there's a bigger 7:46 backdrop of what i call car 1.0 versus 7:49 car 2.0 so carb 1.0 is about humans 7:52 driving right their car and full 7:54 attention is required right to drive car 7:56 2.0 now is about ai or neural nets 7:59 driving the car and the human in the car 8:01 they're free to relax play or work and 8:04 the question is can existing oems 8:06 successfully navigate this transition 8:08 from car 1.0 to 2.0 or do they have to 8:11 partner with apple mobilei nvidia cruz 8:14 etc even with the with partnerships can 8:17 they succeed further is autonomous 8:18 driving a network effects market where 8:21 winner takes most meaning will the 8:23 leader collect the most and the best 8:24 data and this flywheel just becomes 8:27 incredibly difficult or impossible to 8:28 catch up with as a tesla investor i'm 8:30 actually glad that apple is coming out 8:32 with this stuff now versus let's say 8:34 seven or eight years ago tesla has 8:37 already pushed forward they've already 8:38 established themselves right as a 8:40 struggle not not just with evs but with 8:42 fsd and the future autonomous driving 8:44 market so the challenge actually lies 8:46 more with apple can they extend right 8:48 their next generation car play into 8:50 something more can they add autonomous 8:52 driving features to us can they really 8:54 compete with this car 2.0 market and 8:56 paradigm and then there's a question of 8:58 google will they come in right with 8:59 android and offer the same type of 9:01 offerings that apple offers and can 9:03 apple google nvidia mobile and others 9:07 right really outfit 9:08 oems enough to compete with tesla in the 9:11 new 2.0 car market i hope this has been 9:13 helpful if it has good like and
